MOUZ Sweep Spirit and End Historic 32-Match Swiss Winning Run

MOUZ have brought one of Counter-Strike's most remarkable recent Swiss-stage streaks to an end.

The European side swept Spirit 2-0 at ESL Pro League Season 24 in Katowice, winning 13-5 on Dust2 and 13-11 on Mirage. The result sent MOUZ through the Swiss stage with a perfect 3-0 record and made them the first team to secure a place in the tournament playoffs.

For Spirit, the loss was significant well beyond the EPL standings. They had won 32 consecutive matches in Swiss-format group stages over a period of 668 days. MOUZ became the first team to stop that run.

Spirit's 32-Match Run Finally Ends

Spirit's Swiss consistency had become an extraordinary part of their tournament record. The team had not lost a Swiss group-stage series since its run dating back to the Perfect World Shanghai Major. Another victory in Katowice would have put Spirit through EPL Season 24 at 3-0 and continued a sequence of flawless Swiss campaigns.

Instead, MOUZ controlled the series from the first map. The result is especially notable because the two teams have already met repeatedly in 2026. Spirit defeated MOUZ 3-1 in the BLAST Open Porto grand final in September, while MOUZ had also beaten Spirit earlier in the year. Katowice added another chapter to that rivalry, but this time MOUZ never needed a deciding map.

MOUZ Dominate Spirit's Dust2 Pick

Spirit selected Dust2, but the map quickly moved in the opposite direction. MOUZ built their defense around strong holds from Spinx and PR, repeatedly denying Spirit's attempts to create space around the B side of the map.

Switching the focus toward A did not solve the problem either. torzsi and xelex helped shut down Spirit's alternative attacks, and MOUZ reached the second half with a commanding advantage. They closed Dust2 13-5. Spinx was particularly effective on the opening map, finishing with 22 kills and a 1.88 Rating 3.0. More importantly, MOUZ consistently won the opening exchanges. Across Dust2 they recorded 13 first kills compared with Spirit's five. That made it difficult for Spirit to build the controlled mid-round situations that often make them so dangerous.

donk Has an Unusually Quiet Dust2

The opening map was also an unusually difficult performance for donk. Spirit's star rifler struggled to find his usual level of impact as MOUZ repeatedly denied the early fights and openings that can allow him to take over a map.

The wider issue was not limited to one player. Spirit's attacks frequently ran into prepared defensive setups, and several rounds broke down before the team could establish a favorable late-round position. MOUZ did not need one extraordinary individual performance to stay in control. Their defense functioned collectively, which left Spirit with very few easy routes back into the map.

Spirit Nearly Force Mirage Into Overtime

Mirage was much closer. MOUZ again took control early, with xertioN and xelex helping them build a significant advantage.

Spirit eventually found a response. After falling behind 6-12, they began to string rounds together. donk produced several multi-kills, while zont1x provided important impact as Spirit reduced the deficit.

For a moment, the comeback looked possible. But MOUZ had built enough room for error. They eventually found the final round needed to close Mirage 13-11 and secure the 2-0 series. There would be no Nuke decider.

MOUZ Advance at 3-0

The victory completed a flawless Swiss run for MOUZ:

  • 2-0 vs M80
  • 2-0 vs FURIA
  • 2-0 vs Spirit

Six maps played, six maps won. That is a strong response to their more difficult StarLadder StarSeries Fall campaign in September, where they finished 5th-6th. The Katowice run also gives MOUZ direct passage into the eight-team playoff stage without needing a fourth or fifth Swiss series. For Spirit, the defeat moved their record to 2-1 rather than eliminating them. They remain one victory away from qualifying.

Why the 668-Day Record Matters

A 32-series winning streak in Swiss groups is difficult to maintain because the format actively pushes successful teams toward stronger opponents. A team that starts 2-0 generally faces another team with the same record for a direct playoff or advancement spot. That means long Swiss winning runs are not built against consistently weak opposition.

Spirit repeatedly navigated those high-pressure matches without losing a series for nearly two years. MOUZ ending the run does not suddenly erase Spirit's tournament credentials, and one series is not enough evidence to claim that the team has entered a wider decline. It does, however, remove one of the most impressive active streaks in top-level Counter-Strike.

What This Means for ESL Pro League Season 24

MOUZ are safely through to the playoffs. Their 3-0 group-stage record also reinforces their position among the main contenders heading into the arena phase in Katowice. Spirit still control their own route forward. At 2-1, one more victory is enough to join the playoff field.

The more interesting question is how each team responds. MOUZ have now beaten one of the strongest teams at the event without dropping a map during the entire Swiss run. Spirit, meanwhile, have been forced out of the perfect 3-0 path for the first time in an exceptionally long stretch of Swiss competition. That gives both teams a different type of pressure going into the next phase of their EPL campaigns.

Conclusion

MOUZ did more than secure a playoff place in Katowice. Their 13-5 and 13-11 victories ended Spirit's run of 32 consecutive Swiss group-stage wins, a streak that had survived for 668 days. The result gives MOUZ a perfect 3-0 record at ESL Pro League Season 24 and another important victory in a growing rivalry between the two teams. Spirit remain in a strong qualifying position at 2-1, so the defeat should be viewed as a major single-series result rather than evidence of a broader collapse.
