Attack Range
Attack Range is the distance from which a unit can perform a regular attack. Each unit has a base range that can be modified by specific abilities, items, and bonuses.
What is Attack Range in Dota 2?
Attack Range determines how close a unit must be to issue and complete normal attacks against a target. Heroes have different base attack ranges, and some effects can increase or otherwise modify that value. Range affects how easily a hero can trade, farm, siege, and keep a safe distance from threats.
Attack Range is related to, but not identical with, the melee or ranged classification. A hero’s classification is a game property with its own interactions; it is not determined only by the exact numerical distance of the hero’s attack.
How Attack Range is used in a match
Extra range can let a hero hit an opponent without immediately entering the opponent’s own attack or spell range. It can also make high-ground sieges and late-game positioning safer because the attacker has more space to react to initiation.
Range is only useful when vision, positioning, and target access allow the hero to use it. A long-range attacker caught by a blink initiation or flank can lose the advantage instantly.
Do not confuse Attack Range with...
Attack Range is not cast range. Attack Range applies to regular attacks, while cast range determines how far certain abilities or items can be targeted. Melee and ranged are classifications, not simply labels for two exact range values.
