Backdoor
Backdoor means attacking enemy structures without the normal support of a nearby allied lane wave, often while backdoor protection is active.
What is Backdoor in Dota 2?
Many Dota 2 structures gain backdoor protection when attackers try to hit them without allied lane creeps nearby. The protection reduces how effective unsupported structure damage is and can restore damage under its rules. The system prevents many heroes from simply bypassing lanes and deleting buildings while defenders are occupied elsewhere.
Backdoor can describe both the attempt itself and a broader strategy of threatening structures away from the main fight. The exact protection rules differ by structure and can change over time, so players judge whether a building is actually vulnerable before committing.
How Backdoor is used in a match
A split-pushing hero may reach an enemy structure while the allied creep wave is still far away. If backdoor protection is active, the player may wait for creeps, clear the next wave, or pressure the area just enough to force enemy heroes to teleport back.
Backdoor pressure can still be useful even when the structure cannot be killed immediately. Forcing one or two defenders home can create a numbers advantage for teammates at Roshan, a Tormentor, or another lane.
Do not confuse Backdoor with...
Backdoor is not the same as split push. Split push is the strategy of applying pressure away from the main group; backdoor specifically refers to attacking structures without the normal nearby allied creep support that disables their protection.
