Blink

Blink is a short-range instant reposition that moves the user directly to a new location without normal travel between the starting and ending points.

What is Blink in Dota 2?

Blink is a form of teleport-style movement used for rapid repositioning. It most often refers either to the movement mechanic itself or to Blink Dagger in ordinary player communication. Many hero abilities also blink their caster, although each one has its own targeting, range, restrictions, and secondary effects.

Because a blink changes position instantly, it is different from walking, dashing, or other movement that carries the unit through the space in between. Blink effects commonly interact with roots, leash, projectiles, and movement restrictions in special ways, so the exact behavior belongs to the source rather than to one universal rule.

How Blink is used in a match

Blink is one of the main tools for initiation and escape. An initiator can appear suddenly beside a key target, reducing the enemy’s reaction time, while a vulnerable hero can use a blink to create distance or cross terrain. The threat of a ready blink also changes positioning even before it is used.

Players try to protect their blink timing by staying out of vision or avoiding damage that would disable a particular blink source. Opponents spread, ward likely approach paths, and hold instant control to punish the arrival point.

Do not confuse Blink with...

Blink is related to teleportation but usually refers to short-range instant self-repositioning. A Town Portal Scroll is a long-range teleport with a channel, while forced movement moves a unit through space rather than instantly changing its coordinates.
