Comeback

A comeback is a recovery from a losing position in which a team reverses the match and regains a realistic path to victory.

What is Comeback in Dota 2?

Comeback describes the process of turning a game around after falling behind. The disadvantage may be economic, structural, positional or simply reflected in how fights are going. A team does not need to be mathematically certain to lose before a comeback begins; the term is used when the previously weaker side meaningfully restores control or eventually wins.

Dota 2 creates comeback opportunities because one fight can change several parts of the map at once. A team that survives long enough to finish key items, catches a high-value enemy hero or wins a fight near its own base may gain time to take objectives, reclaim vision and push lanes back out.

How Comeback is used in a match

Teams playing from behind often reduce risk and wait for a favorable defensive situation rather than contesting every objective. High ground, buybacks, vision around the base and split map pressure can all help create a fight where the leading team is forced to overextend.

After one successful defense, the recovering team still needs to convert the opportunity. It may take Roshan, remove enemy vision, claim a tower or simply farm several safe waves. A comeback becomes sustainable when the losing side turns isolated successes into a smaller economic and map-control gap.

Do not confuse Comeback with...

Do not confuse comeback with turnaround. A turnaround is usually a single fight or immediate reversal inside an engagement, while a comeback describes a broader recovery over the course of the match.
