Creep Hero
A creep hero is a special creep-type unit that the game treats as a hero for many, but not all, ability and effect interactions.
What is Creep Hero in Dota 2?
Creep heroes sit between ordinary creeps and full heroes in the unit-type system. They remain creep-type units, but many spells and game effects check them as though they were heroes. This can change targeting, duration, damage rules, bounty behavior, or whether an effect is allowed at all.
Because the classification is hybrid, there is no safe shortcut that says every hero-only rule applies or every creep-only rule is ignored. Individual abilities and effects can contain their own exceptions. Some creep heroes can also carry additional unit tags, creating another layer of interaction.
How Creep Hero is used in a match
The classification matters whenever a spell behaves differently against heroes and creeps. A player controlling a powerful summon may discover that an enemy ability affects it with hero-like rules, while another spell still treats it as a non-hero unit. Understanding these interactions helps players decide whether the unit can safely tank, chase, or enter a fight.
Creep heroes are also strategically important because losing one can be much more costly than losing an ordinary summon. Teams may focus them for gold, map control, or to remove a major part of a hero’s fighting power.
Do not confuse Creep Hero with...
A creep hero is not a normal hero and not an ordinary creep. It is a hybrid unit classification used by the game for interaction checks. “Summon” is a broader category and includes many units that are not creep heroes.
