Creep Score (CS)
Creep Score (CS) is shorthand for a player's creep farming total. Depending on context, players use CS for last hits alone or for last hits and denies considered together.
What is Creep Score (CS) in Dota 2?
Creep Score is a community term used to summarize how successfully a player is converting creep waves and neutral camps into farm. In Dota 2, last hits and denies are tracked separately, but players may still use the abbreviation CS as a compact way to discuss one or both numbers. Because the convention is not completely uniform, the surrounding context matters.
If someone says a carry has high CS, they usually mean that the player has secured a large number of creep last hits. When a stat line explicitly shows last hits and denies separately, CS can also be used more broadly for the combined creep-stat picture.
How Creep Score (CS) is used in a match
CS is most useful when comparing farming efficiency or laning outcomes. A player who consistently secures more last hits than an opponent will usually reach item timings sooner, while a high deny count can show how strongly the lane was contested. Analysts and players may compare CS at a particular game time to judge whether a core is ahead or behind its expected farm.
Creep Score does not explain every source of economy. Hero kills, passive gold, objectives, and other sources can create a Net Worth or GPM difference even when two players have similar creep statistics.
Do not confuse Creep Score (CS) with...
CS is not the same as GPM or Net Worth. GPM measures gold earned per minute, while Net Worth represents the value of a hero's current economy. Outside Dota 2, CS is also a common abbreviation for Counter-Strike, so it should not be autolinked without Dota context.
