Evasion
Evasion is a defensive mechanic that gives a unit a chance to avoid incoming attacks entirely, causing those attacks to miss instead of applying their normal attack effects.
What is Evasion in Dota 2?
Evasion is checked when an incoming attack would connect. If the evasion succeeds, the attack misses and its normal on-hit attack effects generally do not occur. Evasion applies to attacks rather than to spell damage as a whole.
Multiple evasion sources can combine, but they do not simply add into one flat percentage. Accuracy and True Strike are the main mechanics used to counter evasion by increasing or guaranteeing the chance that attacks hit.
How Evasion is used in a match
Evasion is valuable against lineups whose damage comes primarily from repeated attacks. It effectively makes some of those attacks produce no result, which can greatly increase survivability without increasing raw health or armor.
Attack-based cores respond by seeking accuracy or True Strike when the miss rate becomes strategically important. Teams also consider whether spending resources to counter evasion is necessary or whether spell damage can solve the problem more efficiently.
Do not confuse Evasion with...
Evasion is not blind. Evasion belongs to the unit being attacked, while blind is a debuff on the attacker. It is also different from disjointing, which avoids a projectile itself rather than making an attack fail through the evasion check.
