What is Glyph of Fortification in Dota 2?

Glyph of Fortification is a team-wide defensive resource. Any player can activate it, but the cooldown is shared by the whole team, so one use commits the resource for everyone. While active, allied buildings become temporarily protected from damage; lane creeps also receive a shorter protective effect. Higher-tier towers gain an additional defensive attack behavior during the fortification window.

The exact duration, cooldown and reset conditions can change between patches, so the strategic principle matters more than memorizing one number. Glyph exists to delay structural damage and create time for defenders to respawn, teleport, reposition, or clear the attacking wave.

How Glyph of Fortification is used in a match

A defensive glyph is strongest when those extra seconds change the fight. A team may use it while heroes are teleporting to a tower, while an important defender is about to respawn, or when protecting a barracks long enough to force the enemy to remain in a risky position.

Glyph can also have offensive value because protected lane creeps can keep a push alive under enemy pressure. The decision is team-wide: using glyph to save a low-value structure can leave no answer for a more important attack soon afterward, while holding it too long may allow a structure to fall before the defense is ready.

Glyph is an activated team ability. Backdoor protection is a separate building mechanic that works under its own conditions. A tower's normal attacks and defenses also continue independently of whether glyph is available.
