Immortal has two major Dota 2 meanings: a high-tier cosmetic item or set, and the top named rank in the competitive matchmaking medal system.

What is Immortal in Dota 2?

In cosmetics, Immortal identifies special hero items or sets with distinctive visual treatment, often including custom ability effects or other presentation changes. Dota 2 has released many Immortal items through treasures and events, and individual pieces can have different ownership, trading and availability rules.

In matchmaking, Immortal is the highest named rank above Divine. High-MMR systems and leaderboard placement can add further distinctions inside the Immortal population, and rules for top-level matchmaking can change over time. Because the same word belongs to two unrelated systems, the surrounding context is essential.

How Immortal is used in a match

If a player says they reached Immortal, the meaning is almost always ranked matchmaking. If a treasure contains an Immortal for a hero, the word refers to the cosmetic item. Phrases such as Immortal Draft also point to high-MMR ranked play rather than cosmetics.

For search and autolinking, words such as rank, MMR, leaderboard and matchmaking indicate the competitive sense, while item, set, treasure, cosmetic and hero loadout indicate the cosmetic sense. The two should not be merged in analytics or entity data even though one glossary page can explain both.
