Intelligence
Intelligence is a core Dota 2 attribute that increases maximum mana, mana regeneration, and Magic Resistance and contributes to attack damage for Intelligence-primary heroes.
What is Intelligence in Dota 2?
Intelligence is the attribute most closely tied to spell resources. Increasing Intelligence expands the mana pool and improves mana regeneration, allowing a hero to cast more abilities or recover the resources needed for the next engagement. It also contributes to a hero’s Magic Resistance under current attribute rules.
For Intelligence-primary heroes, Intelligence also contributes to main attack damage. Even on other hero types, additional Intelligence can be valuable when mana constraints prevent the hero from using a full sequence of abilities.
How Intelligence is used in a match
Players care about Intelligence when a hero frequently runs out of mana or needs to cast several expensive abilities in one fight. A larger pool can make the difference between using only an initiation spell and having enough mana for both initiation and escape.
Intelligence also affects long-term map presence. Better mana resources can reduce the need to return to base or spend additional consumables, although direct mana restoration or other stats may still be more efficient in a specific match.
Do not confuse Intelligence with...
Intelligence is not spell damage. Raising Intelligence does not mean every ability automatically deals more damage. It primarily improves mana-related stats, Magic Resistance, and primary-attribute attack damage where applicable.
