Juking

Juking is deceptive movement around trees, terrain, fog and vision boundaries to escape pursuit, waste enemy time, or create a better position.

What is Juking in Dota 2?

Juking is about making movement difficult to predict. Instead of running in a straight line, a player changes direction around trees, ramps, corners, paths, or fog-of-war boundaries so the pursuer cannot be certain where the hero will appear next. A successful juke can break vision, force the enemy to choose the wrong path, or buy enough time for an escape ability to become available.

The technique relies on map knowledge as much as mechanical execution. Players who understand tree lines, narrow paths and common pursuit routes can make a small area much harder to search. Juking does not require a particular hero or item, although mobility and tree-cutting effects can create additional options.

How Juking is used in a match

A common juke begins when a low-health hero reaches a group of trees while being chased. Instead of continuing toward the obvious exit, the player turns into fog, doubles back, or changes direction after the enemy loses vision. The pursuer must guess which path to follow and can lose several seconds if the guess is wrong.

Juking can also be offensive. A player may briefly disappear from vision to hide the exact angle of an initiation or to make an opponent retreat from a lane. The value comes from uncertainty: once the enemy cannot see the hero, every possible route becomes a decision they must consider.

Do not confuse Juking with...

Juking focuses on deception and vision. Kiting focuses on maintaining favorable distance while fighting, and dodging focuses on avoiding a specific incoming action. One sequence of movement can accomplish more than one of these goals.
