Mid
Mid is the middle lane of the Dota 2 map, a central route that commonly gives one hero solo access to lane experience and quick paths to both sides of the map.
What is Mid in Dota 2?
Mid is the central of the three lanes. Because it is shorter and sits between both side lanes, heroes there can often move toward runes, side-lane fights and central objectives without crossing the entire map. The lane is commonly played as a one-versus-one matchup early, although supports and other heroes may rotate through it.
The term “mid” primarily describes the lane itself. The player or role that starts there is the midlaner. A strong mid game is not only about killing the opposing mid hero: controlling the creep wave, protecting the tower, managing resources and choosing effective rotations all influence whether the lane creates an advantage.
How Mid is used in a match
Mid players often clear or manipulate a wave before moving for a rune or rotation. Leaving after the wave is handled reduces the amount of gold and experience lost while the hero is away. If the opposing mid disappears, teammates may react by playing more carefully on the side lanes.
The central tower is also strategically important because it protects access between large areas of the map. Losing control of mid can therefore affect movement and vision even when the lane's early one-versus-one stage has already ended.
Do not confuse Mid with...
Mid is the lane; midlaner is the role. “Middle” is an alternate name for the lane, while roaming describes movement between lanes and is not a synonym for playing mid.
