Movement Speed (MS)
Movement Speed is the rate at which a unit travels across the map through normal movement. It can be changed by base values, flat bonuses, percentage bonuses, slows, and special effects.
What is Movement Speed (MS) in Dota 2?
Movement Speed determines how quickly a unit covers distance with normal movement. Every mobile unit has a base value, and items, abilities, buffs, and debuffs can increase or decrease the final speed. Different bonuses can follow different stacking rules, so the visible result depends on the specific sources involved.
Movement Speed affects much more than travel time. It changes how easily a hero can maintain attack range, dodge skillshots, escape from danger, reach objectives, rotate between lanes, and chase opponents without spending a mobility spell.
How Movement Speed (MS) is used in a match
A small movement advantage can decide a lane trade because the faster hero may land one extra attack before the opponent reaches safety. In larger fights, speed helps heroes reposition around vision, avoid dangerous areas, and stay connected to teammates.
Movement Speed is also a map-tempo stat. Faster heroes can clear a wave and arrive at the next objective sooner, creating short numerical advantages before slower opponents complete their rotation.
Do not confuse Movement Speed (MS) with...
Movement Speed is not the same as mobility. Mobility is a broader concept that includes blinks, leaps, teleports, forced movement, and other tools that reposition a hero. Movement Speed specifically describes normal movement rate.
