Nuke
A nuke is an ability or effect used mainly to deal a large amount of damage quickly, usually in one cast or a short burst window.
What is Nuke in Dota 2?
“Nuke” is player terminology for fast, ability-driven damage. A nuke can be single-target or area-based and may deal magical, physical, or pure damage depending on the source. What makes it a nuke is the concentration of damage into a short window rather than one specific damage type.
Some nukes are used to finish a low-health hero, while others are efficient lane tools or part of a longer spell combination. The term is informal rather than a rigid in-game classification, so players may disagree slightly about whether a particular low-damage utility spell counts as a nuke.
How Nuke is used in a match
Nukes create pressure because they can remove health before the target has time to recover or reposition. On lane, a player may save a nuke to secure a kill when the opponent steps too far forward. In a fight, several nukes can be combined with a disable so the target cannot escape the burst.
The main limitation is usually resource availability. If a hero spends its high-damage spells on creeps or an unsuccessful attempt, the enemy may have a temporary window where that hero contributes much less immediate damage.
Do not confuse Nuke with...
A nuke is a source of fast damage, while burst damage is the broader result of dealing a lot of damage in a short time. Burst can come from several attacks, items, and abilities together rather than from one nuke.
