Nuker

A nuker is a hero archetype built around dealing a large amount of damage quickly with abilities, often during a short control or initiation window.

What is Nuker in Dota 2?

Nuker describes a hero whose toolkit contains strong sources of immediate or near-immediate spell damage. The word comes from nuke, a common Dota term for a high-impact damaging ability. Nukers are valuable when a team needs to remove a target quickly, punish low-health heroes or convert a stun or other disable into a kill before the opponent can react.

Nuker is an archetype rather than a numbered position. A nuker can be a midlaner, support, offlaner or another role depending on the hero and draft. Some nukers rely on one large spell, while others combine several abilities into a short burst sequence.

How Nuker is used in a match

Players call a hero a nuker when evaluating how much fast spell damage a lineup can produce. Against fragile targets, a nuker may wait for initiation and immediately use key abilities to secure the kill. Against durable heroes, the same spells may instead be used to force defensive items or soften targets before a longer fight.

Cooldown and mana management are central to the archetype. Once the main damage spells are unavailable, a nuker may temporarily contribute less direct threat and must reposition until the next opportunity.
