Outpost

An Outpost is a capturable map structure that can become a teleport destination for the team that controls it.

What is Outpost in Dota 2?

Outposts are neutral buildings that teams can capture and use as additional points of access on the map. Once an Outpost belongs to a team, allied heroes can teleport to it, allowing rotations that would otherwise take longer or require a different destination. Ownership can change, so an Outpost is a piece of territorial control rather than a permanently allied structure.

The exact locations and capture rules have changed across major map updates. For practical play, the important idea is that controlling an Outpost can improve how quickly a team reinforces a part of the map and can influence whether nearby objectives are safe to contest.

How Outpost is used in a match

Teams value an Outpost most when they expect action nearby. Capturing it before a fight gives allies another place to arrive from, while losing it can make a defensive rotation slower and more predictable. A team may secure an Outpost after pushing a lane, then use the new teleport option to maintain pressure without keeping all five heroes in the same area.

Because control can be contested, players should not treat an Outpost as a guaranteed safe arrival point. Vision around the structure and knowledge of enemy positions still matter before committing to a teleport.

Do not confuse Outpost with...

An Outpost is not a Watcher. An Outpost is mainly valuable as a captured teleport destination; a Watcher is a neutral structure captured to provide temporary vision.
