Pseudo-Random Distribution (PRD)
Pseudo-Random Distribution, or PRD, is a probability system that changes the chance of a proc across repeated attempts to reduce extreme success or failure streaks.
What is Pseudo-Random Distribution (PRD) in Dota 2?
PRD does not give every attempt the same independent chance. Instead, the trigger chance starts below the listed long-run rate and increases after unsuccessful attempts. When the effect successfully procs, the sequence resets. Over time, this produces the intended average while making very long streaks less common than they would be under independent rolls.
Only mechanics that are specifically configured to use PRD follow this behavior. Other random systems can remain independent or use a different distribution. That is why players should not assume that every percentage shown in Dota 2 becomes more likely after each failure.
How Pseudo-Random Distribution (PRD) is used in a match
PRD makes some repeated combat effects feel more consistent. A player can still experience several misses or several non-procs in a row, but the system increasingly favors a trigger after repeated failures. This affects how players interpret chance-based attacks, evasion, and other PRD-enabled mechanics across a sequence of attempts.
It is still risky to predict the exact next result. PRD improves distribution over repeated trials; it does not create a simple rule that a proc must occur after a fixed number of ordinary attempts unless that particular mechanic reaches certainty under its configured sequence.

PRD is not the same as true random distribution. Under true random distribution, each equivalent attempt is independent of the previous result. PRD carries information from previous failures into the next chance.
