Push

A Push is coordinated pressure on a lane to move creeps forward, damage enemy structures and claim more control of the map.

What is Push in Dota 2?

Pushing means advancing a lane rather than leaving the creep wave near its current position. Players clear enemy creeps, keep their own wave moving, and use the resulting pressure to attack towers, barracks or the Ancient. A push can involve the full team, a small group, or a single hero depending on the game state.

The value of a push is not limited to building damage. A wave near an enemy tower forces someone to respond, reveals defenders, creates safer territory behind the wave and can open space for another objective on the opposite side of the map.

How Push is used in a match

Teams push hardest when they have a timing advantage: an enemy is dead, a key item is finished, a strong ultimate is available, or opponents are showing far away. Before committing, they usually want enough vision to know whether the enemy can flank or start a favorable fight.

A push does not always need to end with a destroyed tower. Forcing teleports, dealing partial structure damage and then leaving safely can still create an advantage if the team uses the enemy reaction elsewhere.

Do not confuse Push with...

Push describes lane and structure pressure. Split push applies that pressure in a separate lane away from the main group, while backdoor refers specifically to attacking structures without normal nearby creep support.
