Space
Space is the time and map freedom created when one player or group forces enemy attention away from a teammate who needs room to farm or act.
What is Space in Dota 2?
Making space means creating a useful problem for the opponent. A hero may push a dangerous lane, start a fight, threaten a tower, invade the enemy jungle or simply survive while several opponents chase them. If the enemy spends time and resources responding, teammates elsewhere gain freedom to farm, take objectives or improve their positions.
Space is not a fixed area on the map. It is the practical freedom produced by enemy attention being occupied somewhere else. A play can create space even if the player dies, but only when the rest of the team gains enough value from the time and reaction forced.
How Space is used in a match
An offlaner might show aggressively in one lane and draw three enemy heroes. While those opponents chase, the carry farms two waves and a jungle route without pressure. The offlaner has made space if the team converts that distraction into meaningful resources or positioning.
Teams also create space around objectives. Showing heroes on one side of the map can make the enemy reveal teleports or movement, allowing teammates to start a safer push or neutral objective elsewhere.
Do not confuse Space with...
Space is not the same as map control. Map control describes which areas a team can safely occupy or influence; space describes the temporary freedom created for allies by forcing the enemy to spend attention and time elsewhere.
