Split Push
Split Push is a strategy where one or more heroes pressure a different lane from the main team, forcing opponents to divide their attention.
What is Split Push in Dota 2?
Split pushing creates simultaneous problems in different parts of the map. While most of the team occupies enemies around one lane or objective, another hero pushes a separate wave and threatens structures. The opponent then has to decide whether to stay grouped, send someone back, or give up the structure.
The strategy is strongest when the split-pushing hero can clear waves quickly, escape pressure, or threaten meaningful building damage. It becomes dangerous when that hero is caught alone and the rest of the team cannot gain anything from the space created.
How Split Push is used in a match
A common split push begins when four heroes show near an objective while a mobile core pushes the opposite lane. If defenders teleport back, the four-player group may gain control of the objective. If nobody responds, the split pusher can keep damaging towers or barracks.
Players sometimes call this style rat Dota or ratting. The slang usually emphasizes avoiding a direct five-on-five fight and winning through lane pressure and repeated structural threats.
Do not confuse Split Push with...
Split push is broader than backdoor. A split pusher can pressure a lane with normal creep support; backdoor refers to attacking protected structures without that nearby wave.
