Stacking

Stacking is the technique of moving neutral creeps out of a camp’s spawn area so another group can spawn there, creating a larger camp to farm later.

What is Stacking in Dota 2?

Neutral camps can create a new group of creeps when their spawn conditions are met. Stacking exploits this by drawing the existing neutral creeps far enough away from the camp's spawn area at the relevant moment. If the area is clear, another group appears and the original creeps return, leaving multiple groups in the same camp.

The exact timing and direction depend on the camp, creep movement and current map layout. Some camps are easy to stack from one direction, while others require earlier or later movement. The durable concept is clearing the spawn area without killing the existing neutral creeps, thereby increasing the amount of future farm stored in that location.

How Stacking is used in a match

Supports often create stacks for a core who can clear large neutral groups efficiently. This increases the amount of gold and experience available without forcing that core to spend time waiting for camps to respawn naturally. A stack can also accelerate a hero toward an important item or level timing.

Stacks are not automatically safe resources. A large visible stack can attract the enemy team, and some heroes are better at stealing stacked camps than the intended farmer is at defending them. Teams therefore use vision, map pressure and timing to decide when to build a stack and when to clear it.

Do not confuse Stacking with...

Stacking creates more neutral creeps in one camp. Pulling uses a neutral camp to redirect a lane wave, while camp blocking prevents a normal spawn. A camp can be stacked and later used for a pull, but those are separate actions.
