Strength

Strength is a core Dota 2 attribute that increases a hero’s maximum health and health regeneration and contributes to attack damage for Strength-primary heroes.

What is Strength in Dota 2?

Strength is the attribute most directly associated with raw health durability. Increasing Strength raises a hero’s maximum health and improves health regeneration, allowing the hero to survive more incoming damage and recover more effectively between engagements.

For heroes whose primary attribute is Strength, Strength also contributes to their main attack damage. The value of Strength is not limited to traditional frontline heroes: any hero can benefit from the extra health when survivability is more important than a narrower offensive stat.

How Strength is used in a match

Players prioritize Strength when they need to survive burst, stay in the front line longer, or reduce the risk of dying before using important spells. A small increase in damage is meaningless if the hero cannot remain alive long enough to apply it.

Strength is also useful when comparing item paths. A utility item with Strength can solve both a team need and a survivability problem, while a pure damage item may offer more offense but leave the hero easier to kill.

Do not confuse Strength with...

Strength is not armor. Strength mainly expands the health pool and regeneration, while armor changes physical damage taken. Extra Strength can make a hero harder to kill against every damage type, but it does not replace specialized resistances.
