Swap
Swap is a context-dependent Dota 2 term for exchanging positions, roles, lanes, heroes, or locations, with the exact meaning determined by the situation.
What is Swap in Dota 2?
“Swap” has several valid uses in Dota 2. Players may talk about a lane swap when heroes change their starting or current lanes, a hero swap in a mode or lobby that allows players to exchange selected heroes, or a position-swapping ability that exchanges or repositions units. The word itself therefore does not identify one single mechanic.
This is why swap requires context in glossary search and autolinking. “Swap lanes” describes a strategic redistribution, while an ability name such as Nether Swap refers to a specific hero ability and should normally point to that hero or ability entity rather than redefine the generic word.
How Swap is used in a match
Lane swaps are used to improve matchups, protect an important core, avoid an unfavorable lane, or put a particular hero near the objective the team wants to contest. A swap can happen before the lanes settle or later when teams redistribute farm and pressure.
Position-swapping effects are tactical tools. They can save an ally, pull an enemy out of formation, or instantly change which hero is exposed to danger. The value comes from changing the geometry of the fight rather than from the word “swap” itself.
Do not confuse Swap with...
Swap is not one universal movement mechanic. A lane swap is a strategic reassignment, a hero swap is an exchange between players where the mode allows it, and a position-swapping ability is a specific game effect.
