Tormentor
The Tormentor is a powerful neutral objective with a regenerating barrier and punishing defensive effects that rewards coordinated team damage.
What is Tormentor in Dota 2?
The Tormentor is a stationary neutral boss that is difficult to kill despite not fighting like a normal hero or creep. Its defense is built around a large regenerating barrier, reflected damage and other effects that punish teams that attack it without enough health, damage or coordination. Its strength grows as the game progresses.
In the current map, only one Tormentor is active at a time and its active side changes with the day-night cycle. Defeating it can grant a free Aghanim’s Shard upgrade to an eligible teammate along with team gold, making it a valuable objective when the team can take it without giving up a more important fight or structure.
How Tormentor is used in a match
A team usually attempts the Tormentor when several heroes are nearby, the enemy is showing elsewhere, and the damage can be completed before opponents arrive. Supports often help prepare vision around the approaches while cores judge whether taking reflected damage is safe.
The objective is also about opportunity cost. Spending too long on the Tormentor can expose towers, Roshan, lane waves or teammates elsewhere. Strong macro play means taking it when the map gives enough time, rather than forcing it simply because it is available.
Do not confuse Tormentor with...
The Tormentor is not Roshan. Both are neutral objectives, but they use different mechanics, locations and reward systems. The Tormentor’s defining challenge is its barrier and reflected damage rather than Roshan’s direct combat behavior.
