True Sight

2 min readWinio Team

True Sight is a reveal mechanic that exposes invisible enemy units and wards within its effect, allowing them to be seen and targeted when the relevant vision conditions are met.

What is True Sight in Dota 2?

True Sight is the core mechanic behind many forms of detection. A source of True Sight reveals invisible enemy units and wards inside its area or on affected targets. The reveal itself is separate from ordinary map vision: some sources provide both vision and True Sight, while others mainly provide the reveal component.

This distinction is why detection placement matters. A Sentry Ward can cover a large reveal area without functioning like a permanent Observer Ward for normal vision. Other abilities or items may combine True Sight with additional vision or reveal through Fog of War.

How True Sight is used in a match

True Sight is used to remove the targeting advantage of invisibility and to find enemy wards. Teams place or carry it around objectives, common ward locations, and expected fight zones when invisible threats are important.

The enemy can respond by destroying the detection source, fighting outside its effective area, or waiting for the reveal window to end. Vision control therefore becomes a contest over both information and the tools that reveal hidden units.

Do not confuse True Sight with...

True Sight is a specific reveal mechanic; detection is the broader tactical category of tools used to find invisible enemies or wards. True Sight is also not the same as normal vision, which determines what terrain and units a team can see through Fog of War.
