Turnaround
A turnaround is an immediate reversal in which the side that appeared to be losing a fight or exchange changes the situation and comes out ahead.
What is Turnaround in Dota 2?
Turnaround describes a local reversal rather than a whole-match recovery. A team may be initiated on, lose health quickly and seem forced to retreat, only to use defensive items, reinforcements or major cooldowns to reverse the engagement. The same term can describe a smaller skirmish where a chased hero survives long enough for allies to arrive.
Turnarounds often happen because the attacking side commits more resources than expected. Once key spells are spent, the defenders may have better cooldowns, positioning or numbers for the second part of the fight. This makes patience and target selection important even when the opening seconds look decisive.
How Turnaround is used in a match
A common turnaround begins with a save or counter-initiation. The first target survives, the enemy formation becomes compressed around that target, and the defending team then lands area control or burst damage on several heroes. Buyback or a fast teleport can create a similar reversal by changing the numbers during the engagement.
Players use the word immediately after such a fight: what began as an enemy catch became a winning trade, objective or map swing for the team that was initially under pressure.
Do not confuse Turnaround with...
Do not confuse turnaround with comeback. A turnaround is usually one engagement or short sequence; a comeback is the wider process of recovering from a losing game state.
