Watcher
A Watcher is a neutral map structure that a team can capture to gain temporary vision over the surrounding area.
What is Watcher in Dota 2?
Watchers are neutral structures placed at strategic points around the map. A hero can capture a neutral Watcher, turning it on for the team and granting vision around that location for a limited period. An opposing team can interact with a captured Watcher to disable it before it naturally returns to a neutral state.
A Watcher provides normal vision rather than True Sight. That distinction matters against invisibility: owning a Watcher can reveal movement through the area, but it does not replace Sentry Wards or other detection when an enemy is invisible.
How Watcher is used in a match
Teams capture Watchers before moving into nearby objectives or farming areas because the extra information can reveal an incoming rotation. A player may also disable an enemy Watcher before a smoke movement so the approach is harder to read.
Because Watchers are fixed structures, opponents know where they are and can plan around them. Their value comes from controlling the area around the Watcher and understanding when its vision is active, not from hiding the structure itself.
Do not confuse Watcher with...
A Watcher is not a ward and does not provide True Sight. It is a fixed neutral structure captured for temporary normal vision; Wards are inventory items placed by players, and Sentry Wards handle detection.
