Overpass Callouts in CS2

Overpass rewards information more than almost any other CS2 map.

Its large layout, underground routes and uneven elevation allow teams to rotate without immediately revealing their final destination. One player taking control of Connector or Bathrooms can completely change how the defense reads the round.

Raw aim still matters, but Overpass is primarily decided by map control, utility, communication and timing.

This guide covers the essential Overpass callouts, the history of the map, CT and T-side strategies, important grenades and the areas that influence most rounds.

The History of Overpass

Overpass was released in December 2013 as part of the CS Winter Offensive update.

Unlike many competitive maps that originated as community projects, Overpass was designed by Valve specifically for CS. The developers wanted to create a map with high visibility, varied engagement distances and a structure that felt different from the traditional three-lane layouts.

The map is set in Berlin, Germany. Its environment combines a public park, bathrooms, underground tunnels, a canal and a major road overpass.

Overpass received numerous updates during the CS era. Valve adjusted the bombsites, Connector, Bathrooms and several important sightlines to improve the competitive balance.

The map was rebuilt for CS2 with updated lighting, materials and geometry. It left the Active Duty pool in April 2024, returned in July 2025 and was removed again in July 2026 when Cache entered the pool for Premier Season Five.

Overpass remains one of the most recognizable tactical maps in Counter-Strike. Its callouts are still useful in available game modes, community servers and professional demo analysis.

What Makes Overpass Different?

Overpass does not have one simple Mid lane connecting both bombsites.

Instead, the central battle is spread across several areas:

  • Fountain
  • Playground
  • Party
  • Bathrooms
  • Connector
  • Tunnels
  • Water

The two bombsites also sit at different elevations. A is located in the upper park area, while B is positioned below the overpass near the canal.

This structure creates long attacking routes and fast defensive rotations. Terrorists need time to establish map control, while CT players can move quickly between the sites through Connector and the defensive spawn routes.

The result is a map built around information. A single aggressive CT player can identify the attacking setup, but losing that player may open an entire part of the map.

Why Overpass Callouts Matter

Vague communication is especially dangerous on Overpass.

“Two Mid” could describe players at Fountain, Party, Connector or Bathrooms. “One B” does not explain whether the opponent is in Monster, Water, Short or already behind Pillar.

Accurate callouts help teams:

  • Track rotations
  • Coordinate utility
  • Prepare trades
  • Identify possible flanks
  • Choose the correct plant
  • Build crossfires
  • Organize retakes
  • Decide when to save

Callout names can vary between regions. Bathrooms may be called Toilets or Restrooms, while Truck is also known as Optimus. The important thing is that everyone on the team understands the same terminology.

Overpass A Site Callouts

A is an open bombsite with long defensive sightlines.

Terrorists can attack through A Long, Bathrooms or A Short. CT players commonly defend from Truck, Bank, Default, Bins and the back of the site.

The essential A site callouts are:

  • A Site
  • A Long
  • Bathrooms
  • Long Bathrooms
  • A Short
  • Banana
  • Truck
  • Optimus
  • Bank
  • Default
  • Van
  • Bins
  • Dumpster
  • Storage
  • Flowers
  • Signpost
  • Close Left
  • Cafe
  • Bench
  • CT

Overpass B Site Callouts

B is a compact bombsite surrounded by tunnels, water and several protected defensive positions.

Terrorists can attack through Monster or create a split through Water and B Short. CT players usually defend from Pillar, Barrels, Heaven, Pit, Graffiti and Bridge.

The main B site callouts are:

  • B Site
  • Monster
  • B Short
  • Water
  • Construction
  • Sandbags
  • Pillar
  • Barrels
  • Toxic
  • Heaven
  • Pit
  • Graffiti
  • Bridge
  • Boost
  • Sewers
  • Walkway
  • ABC
  • Cement
  • Default

Overpass Mid and Park Callouts

Overpass does not have a conventional Mid like Mirage or Ancient.

Instead, the central battle takes place across the park, Fountain, Party, Bathrooms and Connector. Control of these areas determines how safely both teams can rotate.

The essential central callouts are:

  • Fountain
  • Playground
  • Party
  • Balloons
  • Lower Park
  • Upper Park
  • Connector
  • Squeaky
  • Tunnels
  • Upper Tunnels
  • Lower Tunnels
  • T Stairs
  • Pipe
  • Tracks
  • Ladder
  • Bathrooms

Important Connections on Overpass

Understanding individual callouts is useful, but Overpass is decided by the routes connecting them.

Fountain to Bathrooms

This route creates central control and access to A.

If the Terrorists own Fountain and Bathrooms, the CT side loses much of its early information around the upper part of the map.

Connector to Water

Connector links the upper park with the B-side canal.

It allows fast rotations and late changes of direction. A Terrorist controlling Connector can create pressure on either bombsite without returning to spawn.

Monster to B

Monster is the fastest direct route into B.

Its narrow exit makes utility and coordinated entry spacing essential.

Long and Short to A

A becomes difficult to defend when the Terrorists control both approaches.

The defenders must watch separate directions and cannot focus every piece of utility on one entrance.

Teams to Study on Overpass

Recent Overpass demos from Team Spirit, FURIA, Aurora and Team Vitality provide useful examples of high-level play.

Their matches can help players study:

  • Early Fountain control
  • Bathrooms protocols
  • Monster utility
  • Connector aggression
  • A splits through Long and Short
  • B splits through Monster and Water
  • CT information systems
  • Late-round rotations

AWP players can study ZywOo and molodoy to understand long-range positioning around A Long, Bathrooms and Heaven.

Riflers can focus on players such as XANTARES and flameZ when learning entries, close-range trading and aggressive CT setups.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Overpass

Advantages

  • High tactical variety
  • Multiple rotation routes
  • Strong opportunities for fakes
  • Valuable utility knowledge
  • Different engagement distances
  • Significant room for team systems
  • High importance of information and timing

Disadvantages

  • Difficult for new players
  • Long attacking rotations
  • Heavy dependence on communication
  • Complex underground routes
  • Strong punishment for lost map control
  • Limited effectiveness of uncoordinated solo play

Learn the Callouts, Then Read the Round

Learning the Overpass callouts improves communication. Understanding Fountain control, Bathrooms pressure, Monster utility and Connector rotations explains why professional rounds develop in a particular way.

These factors also influence match probabilities. A team’s performance on Overpass depends on its map pool, side-specific results, player roles, recent form and ability to convert map control into successful executes.

Winio analyzes these variables across thousands of matches to show what the data says before the server decides the result.
