Whistle Grenade Callous in CS2

Whistle brings Wingman to a historic British railway station built around a classic steam locomotive, narrow platforms and compact station buildings.
The map may appear simple because it contains only one bombsite. In practice, its multiple entrances, short rotation routes and long platform sightlines create a surprisingly tactical 2v2 experience.
Utility has a major influence on every round. One smoke can remove an entire rotation route, a Molotov can force a defender out of Back Site and a well-timed flash can create enough space to plant the bomb.
This guide covers the essential Whistle callouts, smokes, flashes, Molotovs and HE grenades, along with T-side executes, CT setups and effective ways to practice utility.
What Is Whistle in CS2?
Whistle, also known by its technical name de_whistle, is a community-created Wingman map designed by seth and Quoting.
The Counter-Terrorists must protect a classic locomotive from an attack at a historic railway station. The environment is inspired by the golden age of British rail travel, with ticket offices, waiting rooms, platforms, luggage and period railway architecture.

The creators describe the map as a fast-paced fight along the platform of a historic station.
Whistle was added to the official CS2 Wingman pool on November 13, 2024, alongside Palais.
Valve removed Whistle, Palais, Basalt and Edin from all official game modes on May 7, 2025. The map is no longer part of standard matchmaking, but compatible versions can still be played through the Workshop or community servers.
How Whistle Plays
Whistle was designed around the Wingman format.
Instead of spreading five players across two bombsites, each team has only two players and one site to attack or defend. Losing the opening duel immediately creates a 1v2 situation, so every decision carries more weight.
The main gameplay features include:
- One bombsite
- Fast rotations
- Several entrances into the site
- A long sightline along the platform
- A central locomotive and other vision-blocking objects
- Multiple opportunities to wrap around the defenders
- Close-range fights inside the station
- Strong post-plant positions
- High utility value
Terrorists can reach the major opening angles quickly. This often forces the CT side to defend from deeper positions instead of repeatedly challenging the first contact.
The Counter-Terrorists have strong wrapping potential around their side of the map. They can give up the initial site control, rotate through CT Spawn and approach the retake from another direction.
Long is particularly influential. Control of this area gives the Terrorists a powerful angle into the site and a strong post-plant position. However, the player on Long can be attacked from several connecting routes.
Essential Whistle Callouts
Whistle does not have a universally established set of professional callouts. Different teams and regions may use slightly different terms.
Before playing, both teammates should agree on a basic callout system.
Useful Whistle callouts include:
- T Spawn
- CT Spawn
- Bombsite
- Default
- Train
- Front Train
- Back Train
- Platform
- Long
- Main
- Station
- Waiting Room
- Tickets
- Stairs
- Tracks
- Bridge
- Back Site
- Luggage
- Board
- Water Tower
The exact names matter less than consistency. Both players must immediately understand which position is being described.
Why Utility Matters on Whistle
Grenades become more valuable when only two players are available.
In a standard 5v5 match, the team may recover from one failed grenade or lost duel. In Wingman, the same mistake can leave one player responsible for clearing the entire bombsite.
Effective utility allows a team to:
- Block a CT rotation
- Isolate one defender
- Take Long without a dry peek
- Remove a player from Back Site
- Create space to plant
- Block vision around the train
- Prepare a coordinated retake
- Delay a final execute
- Prevent or interrupt a defuse
- Clear a dangerous angle without exposing a player
A small, reliable utility set is more valuable than dozens of complicated lineups that cannot be remembered during a match.
How to Practice Whistle Grenade Lineups
Load the map in Practice mode and enter the following commands:
- sv_cheats 1
- mp_warmup_end
- mp_roundtime_defuse 60
- mp_freezetime 0
- mp_buy_anywhere 1
- mp_buytime 9999
- sv_infinite_ammo 1
- ammo_grenade_limit_total 5
- sv_grenade_trajectory_prac_pipreview 1
- sv_rethrow_last_grenade
- bot_kick
sv_grenade_trajectory_prac_pipreview 1 displays the grenade trajectory and landing position.
sv_rethrow_last_grenade repeats the previous throw. This helps test whether a player can reach the intended position before a smoke or flash activates.
If a compatible Workshop version is installed, the map can be launched with:
map de_whistle
Workshop maps may receive geometry and lighting updates. Always verify the landing point on the version you intend to play.
T-Side Smokes on Whistle
CT Spawn Smoke
The CT Spawn smoke is one of the most valuable grenades for a full site execute.
Its purpose is to block the route that allows defenders to rotate around the site or approach the retake from the CT side.
After the smoke lands, the Terrorists can focus on:
- Back Site
- Train
- Board
- Platform
- Close site corners
A basic execute can follow this sequence:
- The first player throws the CT Spawn smoke.
- The second prepares a flash above the site.
- Both players enter after the flash explodes.
- One player clears Train and Back Site.
- The bomb is planted for Long or Station.
Do not wait too long after the smoke lands. A defender may use the cloud to change position or push through it.
Platform Smoke
A Platform smoke divides the open part of the map and removes one of the longer defensive sightlines.
The smoke is useful during an execute through Station. A CT player on the far side of Platform cannot comfortably support the defender inside the site.
The Terrorists can then clear the closer positions one at a time instead of fighting both defenders simultaneously.
Deep Long Smoke
The Deep Long smoke helps the Terrorists take space against an AWP or rifle holding the long platform angle.
The grenade forces the defender to:
- Move closer to the bombsite
- Push through the smoke
- Give up Long
- Change to a less comfortable angle
The attacking team does not always need to rush immediately. Waiting for a possible smoke push can punish an impatient defender.
Train Smoke
A smoke beside the locomotive can isolate a player moving around Train.
If a defender disappears behind the engine after the opening contact, chasing them can expose the Terrorists to several angles. A smoke removes their vision and allows the attackers to take the site.
This smoke can also create uncertainty during a post-plant. The CT player must decide whether to wait, push through or rotate around the cloud.
Plant Smoke
A smoke directly on or beside the bombsite can help the Terrorists plant when both players have low health.
This is a situational option rather than a standard execute. The Counter-Terrorists may spray the common planting position through the smoke.
Change the plant location and make sure the second Terrorist watches the most likely push.
T-Side Flashes on Whistle
Long Flash
A high flash over Long should explode above the open platform area.
It is designed to blind defenders holding long-range angles while allowing the entry player to move forward.
Timing is essential. If the flash explodes too early, the defender will recover before the duel. If it explodes too late, the entry player may be blinded as well.
The player throwing the flash should call the timing clearly:
- Preparing
- Throwing
- Flashing now
- Go
Station Roof Flash
The station’s open roof structures and windows create opportunities for high flashes.
A flash thrown from inside Station can appear above the platform with very little warning. It is useful before an entry through Main or Waiting Room.
The entry player should already be close to the exit when the flash is released.
Site Pop Flash
A close pop flash can be bounced from a wall or station structure.
It should explode immediately after becoming visible to a defender. This makes it particularly effective against players holding Board, Luggage or Train.
After the throw, the first Terrorist must enter. Remaining inside the doorway wastes the short advantage created by the flash.
Repeek Flash
Whistle allows players to leave an engagement and quickly return from another angle.
After showing presence on Long, a Terrorist can fall back while the teammate throws a flash. The player then repeeks from a different position.
The defender may continue holding the original angle and lose time adjusting their crosshair.
T-Side Molotovs on Whistle
Back Site Molotov
The Back Site Molotov is one of the first lineups Terrorists should learn.
Back Site allows a defender to survive the initial execute and attack during the plant. A Molotov forces the player into the open.
The attackers must hold the possible exits after throwing the grenade. Pulling out the bomb immediately can give the defender a free duel.
Train Molotov
The locomotive creates several blind spots around the bombsite.
A defender can move around the train and repeatedly avoid direct contact. A Molotov limits this movement and forces the player to choose an exit.
The second Terrorist should hold the expected escape route.
Tracks Molotov
A defender may play near the tracks or below parts of the platform to create a close-range engagement.
A Molotov removes this position and is especially useful against shotguns and SMGs. It prevents the defender from waiting for the attackers to move into an ideal range.
Close Main Molotov
Counter-Terrorists can take an aggressive position near the main Station exit.
If the defense repeats this setup, use a Molotov instead of attempting another dry peek. Move away from the likely HE response and prepare to catch the defender leaving the flames.
Defuse Molotov
Saving a Molotov for the planted bomb can win the round without another duel.
Do not throw it immediately after hearing the first defuse sound. The CT player may fake the attempt and move away.
Wait briefly, confirm the position if possible and account for a possible defuse kit.
T-Side HE Grenades
Long Corner HE
A Counter-Terrorist may take an aggressive position near the Long entrance.
An early HE grenade can damage the defender and disrupt their timing. Even without a kill, the damage makes the next rifle duel much easier.
Board HE
Board is a natural position for a defender attempting to delay the plant.
Once the player’s position is known, use an HE grenade instead of challenging the angle separately. The explosion may force the CT into the open.
Back Site HE
The Back Site HE can be combined with a Molotov.
The HE deals initial damage, while the fire removes the safe position and restricts the defender’s escape. This combination becomes particularly effective when the opponent repeats the same setup.
Defuse HE
An HE grenade can interrupt the defuse without exposing the Terrorist to a direct fight.
Listen for the bomb, consider whether the opponent has a kit and throw the grenade when it will prevent a full defuse attempt.
CT-Side Utility on Whistle
Early Long Incendiary
An early incendiary grenade prevents the Terrorists from taking Long for free.
The grenade can:
- Delay the first contact
- Force the attackers to use a smoke
- Provide information
- Give the second defender time to reposition
- Protect an aggressive setup
Do not stand directly behind the flames. The Terrorists may extinguish them with a smoke and attack earlier than expected.
Station Smoke
A smoke in front of Station or Main blocks one of the main attacking routes.
It becomes particularly powerful late in the round. The Terrorists may lose enough time to prevent a safe plant.
Avoid using the smoke after hearing only one step or grenade. If no execute follows, the attackers can wait until it disappears.
Main HE
The narrow Station exit is an effective target for an HE grenade.
The best timing usually comes after contact from the other defender or after hearing multiple players preparing to enter. A random early HE often deals no damage and leaves the CT side without useful utility during the real execute.
Site Retake Flash
A high flash above the site allows the defenders to repeek Platform, Long or the planted bomb.
One player should move behind cover before the teammate throws it. The two CTs can then enter together and create an immediate trade opportunity.
Default Incendiary
An incendiary on Default can delay the plant.
This grenade becomes more valuable when the round timer is low. The bomb carrier must wait or move to a less favorable planting position.
Retake Smoke
A retake smoke should divide the T-side post-plant positions.
For example, the Counter-Terrorists can smoke Long before clearing the site together. Another option is to block Station while focusing on the player near Platform.
Throwing a smoke directly on the bomb requires a clear plan. If both Terrorists can spray the cloud, attempting to defuse without support is unlikely to work.
How to Play the Post-Plant
A common T-side mistake is sending both players to Long after planting.
Long may provide a clear view of the bomb, but placing both Terrorists in the same area creates several problems. The CT side can:
- Smoke Long
- Flash both players
- Approach together through one route
- Begin a hidden defuse
- Force the Terrorists to peek the same angle
A stronger post-plant uses separate but connected positions.
Possible setups include:
- One player on Long and one inside Station
- One player on Platform and one near Train
- One player watching the bomb from distance and one listening for the CT rotation
- One player making first contact and one preparing the trade
Do not move so far apart that the defenders can isolate two individual fights. The purpose of separate positions is to create a crossfire, not two unrelated duels.
How to Retake the Bombsite
Before starting the retake, the Counter-Terrorists should identify:
- The bomb plant location
- The likely T-side post-plant positions
- The remaining utility
- The time available
- Whether either player has a defuse kit
The defenders should then isolate one section of the map and clear it together.
A basic retake can follow this sequence:
- Smoke Long.
- Flash above Train.
- Clear the close side of the bombsite together.
- After the first kill, one CT watches the smoke.
- The second player begins defusing or searches for the final opponent.
Trying to clear Long, Station and Back Site simultaneously gives the Terrorists several favorable 1v1 engagements.
Learn the Utility, Then Read the Round
Whistle rewards coordinated movement, close trading and purposeful utility.
You do not need to memorize dozens of difficult lineups. Start with the CT Spawn smoke, Back Site Molotov and site flash. Then add grenades for Long, Train and retakes.
Every grenade should help the teammate take space, isolate a defender, plant safely or create a trade opportunity.
The same principles influence professional Counter-Strike. Map pools, utility protocols, side-specific performance, player form and team coordination all affect the probability of winning a match.
