League of Legends Patch 26.20 is scheduled to arrive on October 7, 2026, making it the final major balance update before Worlds begins.
Riot's official 2026 patch schedule still lists October 7 as the planned release date. Patch dates can change, but there is currently no delay notice attached to 26.20. More importantly, Riot already confirmed that this is the Worlds patch.
Patch 26.20 is the Worlds patch
Patch 26.19 was the first round of pro-focused tuning ahead of Worlds. In those notes, Riot explicitly said the Worlds patch would be the patch immediately after 26.19, which makes 26.20 the tournament patch for Worlds 2026.
Worlds itself begins on October 15, giving professional teams just over a week between the scheduled live release and the start of Play-Ins. That makes 26.20 one of the most important balance patches of the year, even before the final list of champion and item changes is published.
As of October 6, Riot has not published the full official Patch 26.20 notes. That distinction matters.
Previewed balance changes can change before release, so champion buffs, nerfs and item numbers should not be treated as final until the patch notes are officially available. For now, the confirmed information is the release date, the patch's role as the Worlds update and several pieces of content Riot has already tied directly to 26.20.
HEARTSTEEL returns with Patch 26.20
One confirmed addition is HEARTSTEEL - Live My Life. Riot's announcements page states that the HEARTSTEEL release debuts with Patch 26.20. That gives the patch a major music and entertainment component alongside its competitive importance. Any additional cosmetics or patch-specific content should still be checked against the final notes once Riot publishes them.
Team Voice will not launch in Patch 26.20
One feature that will not arrive tomorrow is Team Voice. Riot originally planned to begin the expanded Team Voice rollout in North America and Oceania with Patch 26.20. After additional testing, the company postponed the rollout because the feature had not reached the required quality level. Riot has not announced a replacement target patch. Premade Party Voice remains separate from this delay. The postponed system is the planned expansion that would allow players to communicate with the full team.
Why Patch 26.20 matters for Worlds
The most important part of the update is competitive stability. Worlds starts on October 15 and runs through November 14.
By using 26.20 as the tournament patch, Riot effectively sets the balance environment that professional teams will prepare around for the World Championship. That does not mean every solo queue change will automatically matter in pro play. It does mean champion priority, item efficiency and draft preparation can all shift once the final notes go live. For professional teams, the window between October 7 and the opening Play-In matches is short.
What to check when the patch notes go live
Once Riot publishes the full Patch 26.20 notes, the most important details to watch will be:
champion buffs aimed at expanding viable Worlds picks
nerfs to current professional meta outliers
item or system changes that could affect draft priority
any last-minute changes from previewed balance updates
Worlds-specific content and event additions
The final patch notes should always take priority over preview information. That is especially important for a Worlds patch, where a small numerical adjustment can change whether a champion remains a priority pick, drops out of the meta or becomes a new tournament option.
What happens next
Patch 26.20 is scheduled to go live October 7, with Worlds beginning eight days later. The next major step is the publication of the final patch notes. Once those are live, the conversation shifts from what is confirmed before release to which changes are most likely to matter for solo queue and competitive play.
