Xtreme Gaming vs Team Falcons: can patience beat cleaner execution?
Falcons look more stable and are better at turning advantages into wins. Xtreme can put up a fight if they slow the game down, protect Ame’s farm, and reach the late game.
The third day of the Esports World Cup group stage gave Group A a less predictable shape. Poor Rangers held Xtreme Gaming to a 1–1 draw, while Rune Eaters took a map from BetBoom Team. Neither underdog is close to leading the group, but both have now shown that the gap between the favorites and the bottom half is smaller than the standings initially suggested.
Poor Rangers entered the day after consecutive 0–2 defeats against GamerLegion and BetBoom. A draw against Xtreme did not erase that start, but it gave them their first point and proved that they can compete when the series develops on more favorable terms. For Xtreme, meanwhile, it was another missed opportunity to convert a supposedly manageable matchup into a clean win.
Winio read: Poor Rangers and Rune Eaters are gaining ground because the favorites have not consistently controlled the matches they were expected to win. Rune Eaters in particular have now taken maps from both Xtreme and BetBoom, which suggests their results are becoming repeatable rather than accidental. The stronger teams still have the higher ceiling, but Group A is rewarding clean execution more than reputation.
Rune Eaters’ progress is more significant because it is no longer based on a single upset. They already drew with Xtreme on the opening day, then took another map from BetBoom after losing 0–2 to Falcons. Two draws against teams expected to challenge for the top places suggest that Rune Eaters are becoming a structural problem for Group A rather than simply producing isolated surprises.
The two teams are creating disruption in different ways. Poor Rangers are still recovering from a poor opening and remain under pressure to collect points quickly. Rune Eaters have been more consistent at forcing stronger opponents into split series, even if they have not yet converted that resistance into a full match victory.
The main concern for Xtreme and BetBoom is therefore not that they lost individual maps. It is that both allowed teams from the lower half of the group to dictate enough of the series to prevent a 2–0. In a format where group winners advance directly to the playoffs, repeated draws can become nearly as damaging as a full defeat.
The next round will show whether this was temporary resistance or a genuine shift in the group. Poor Rangers face Falcons, while Rune Eaters meet GamerLegion before the two underdogs play each other. Those matches will determine whether they can turn disruptive performances into a realistic route out of the bottom two.

Xtreme and BetBoom both enter at 4–2, but neither looks fully consistent. Xtreme seem steadier, while BetBoom can win if they control the tempo.

Team Spirit opened their Esports World Cup campaign with a 1–1 draw against MOUZ, but the result does not fully capture how close they came to losing the first map. MOUZ controlled most of the game, secured megacreeps, destroyed every Tier 4 tower, and left Spirit defending an exposed Ancient. Spirit still held, won the decisive fight without Yatoro, and eventually completed the comeback.

Miposhka said his first focus after returning to Team Spirit was improving the team’s drafts. If Spirit’s picks start matching opponents better, they could become more stable before major events.
