EWC 2026 CS2 Review: 87% Prediction Accuracy and the Tournament That Changed the Model’s Mind
Esports World Cup 2026 started with Team Spiritlosing a match they had an 84% chance to win. It ended with Spirit lifting the trophy as an 82% favorite.
Between those two points, FUT took the favorite status away from MOUZ, Legacy repeatedly turned minimal chances into victories, and the playoffs became the toughest test of the tournament for Winio prediction model.
This is not just a recap of the final standings. It is a look at how EWC 2026 changed the probabilities match by match.
The key number from EWC 2026
Around 87% of Winio published match predictions at EWC 2026 correctly identified the winner.
Accuracy exceeded 92% during the group stage before dropping to approximately 73% in the playoff sample. The transition to single elimination brought a completely different tournament. Favorites started falling, while FUT and Legacy destroyed the expected shape of the bracket.
Stopping at 87% would miss the most important part of the story. The seven incorrect predictions reveal far more about this tournament than dozens of green checks.
Spirit went from the biggest miss to the championship
Team Spirit producedWinio most confident incorrect prediction of the event.
The model gave Spirit an 84% chance against JiJieHao, but the Chinese team won Mirage 13:10. The future champions lost their opening match to a team that would not make it out of the group.
The remaining probability for JiJieHao was only 16%, but it was never zero.
Winio did not miss another Spirit series for the rest of the tournament:
The quarterfinal against Vitality was the turning point.Spirit ended a six-match losing streak in the head-to-head matchup, while donk finished the series with a 1.46 rating.
In the grand final, FUT won Cache 13:10 before Spirit took Anubis 16:13, survived double overtime on Ancient 16:14 and dominated Nuke 13:5.
Spirit earned $600,000 for the championship. Donk received the tournament MVP after posting a 1.50 rating without a single map below 1.00. He also recorded 88 kills across the four maps of the final. HLTV, MVP statistics
FUT changed the model’s opinion by 27 percentage points
The most revealing prediction story of EWC came from two matches between FUT and MOUZ.
Before their group-stage series, Winiohad the matchup almost even:
MOUZ 52%
FUT 48%
FUT won 2:1 and sent MOUZ into the lower bracket.
The teams met again one week later in the quarterfinals. By then, the prediction had completely flipped:
FUT 75%
MOUZ 25%
FUT’s probability increased by 27 percentage points between the two meetings. They confirmed their new status by sweeping MOUZ2:0.
This is one of the clearest examples of how a prediction model should react to new information. The initial miss was not hidden or ignored. Recent results and tournament performance changed the next calculation, making FUT a clear favorite in the rematch.
FURIA entered the semifinal with a narrow 55% advantage, but FUT won 2:1 after taking the Dust2 decider in overtime. It secured the organization’s first appearance in a Big Event grand final.
FUT could not finish the run with a trophy, but they were the team that changed their position most dramatically during EWC. They arrived as one of 32 participants and left Paris with $340,000, second place and two victories over MOUZ.
Legacy became the model’s biggest blind spot
FUT gradually convinced the model of their strength. Legacy continued breaking the probabilities until the final day.
Falcons entered the quarterfinal with a 66% chance to win. Legacy responded with a 2:0 victory, allowing only seven rounds on Mirage before closing Dust2 13:10.
This was Falcons first LAN appearance since becoming Major champions. Their reputation and recent trophy did not save them from elimination.
After losing to Spirit in the semifinal, Legacy faced FURIA in the third-place match. The prediction showed an even larger gap:
FURIA 83%
Legacy 17%
FURIA won Ancient, but Legacy completed the comeback with consecutive 13:9 victories on Nuke and Dust2.
Legacy claimed third place and $190,000. Try was their best performer, ending the event with a 1.26 rating across 14 maps and posting a 1.33 rating in the bronze-medal series.
There was a striking symmetry to the model’s two most confident misses. JiJieHao defeated Spirit with a 16% chance on the opening day. Legacy defeated FURIA with a 17% chance on the final day.
EWC began and almost ended with a one-in-six scenario becoming reality.

What the Winio predictions actually showed
EWC 2026 demonstrated the difference between probability and a promise.
An 84% prediction does not make defeat impossible. It leaves a 16% path for the opponent, and JiJieHao found it. Legacy 17% against FURIA was not a decorative number either.
A useful model must also be able to change its position when the evidence changes. FUT two matches against MOUZ provided the clearest example. After the first upset and more tournament data, the probability moved by 27 percentage points. The new favorite then won the rematch 2:0.
Winio keeps both the correct calls and the misses visible. The value is not in pretending that every favorite will win. It is in providing a transparent pre-match probability and updating that assessment when the data changes.
