Betclic Apogee Esports defeated Team Liquid 2:1 in the grand final of Stake Pulse Beat I. The Polish roster lost the opening map but responded on Anubis and Nuke to complete the comeback: 11:13, 13:10, 13:7.
The tournament took place in Stockholm from July 31 to August 5 and featured a total prize pool of $60.000. Apogee earned $20,000 for first place, while Liquid received $8.000 and extended their wait for a LAN title to seven years.
Why Did Liquid Lose the Final?
Liquid defeat cannot be blamed on one poor performance on Nuke. The team built significant leads twice but allowed Apogee back into the series, first after going 9:2 up on Cache and then while leading 10:8 on Anubis.
The demanding schedule may also have affected Liquid during the final stages of the event. They defeated fnatic in the semifinal earlier that day and had competed at BLAST Bounty shortly before travelling to Stockholm.
However, the decisive factors were lost clutches, poor conversion of advantageous situations and Liquid failure to close out Anubis.
For Apogee, the victory confirmed the potential of their recently assembled roster. The team was built around four former KOLESIE players and competed with fr3nd as a stand-in. Following Stake Pulse Beat I, the Polish side climbed 34 places in the projected VRS and entered the global top 50.
