Winio Went 25/25 on Day 1 of the EWC 2026 Open Qualifier

The online stage of BLAST Bounty Season 2 reduced a 32-team field to eight, but it did little to preserve the expected competitive hierarchy. Falcons, Vitality and FURIA were eliminated in their opening matches, while Aurora and G2 also failed to reach the LAN Finals.
Spirit, MOUZ, The MongolZ, FaZe, Astralis, paiN, Liquid and 3DMAX will now travel to Malta. The quarterfinal matchups will be decided through a live draft on July 29, with the playoffs beginning the following day.
Liquid completed the most impressive route through the online stage. The rebuilt lineup defeated both Vitality and G2 2–0, reaching Malta without dropping a map despite facing two current top-ten opponents.
The results immediately validate the early direction under new in-game leader JT and AWPer Jorko. They do not guarantee that Liquid will reproduce the same level on LAN, but the quality of opposition makes their 4–0 map record more significant than a typical online honeymoon period.
Liquid’s victory over Vitality was only one part of a wider collapse among the favourites. Current world No. 1 Falcons lost 2–1 to 100 Thieves, while FURIA were eliminated by DENDELE after another three-map upset.
Neither underdog converted that victory into a place in Malta. Spirit stopped 100 Thieves in the next round, while FaZe recovered from losing Mirage to DENDELE. Even so, both eliminated teams changed the tournament by removing major contenders and exposing vulnerabilities in their eventual conquerors.
FOKUS and HOTU produced similar runs. FOKUS eliminated Aurora before losing to MOUZ, while HOTU swept GamerLegion and then pushed Astralis to a deciding map.
Liquid, MOUZ and paiN all qualified without losing a map, but their records require different interpretations.
| Team | Opponents | Map record |
|---|---|---|
| Liquid | Vitality, G2 | 4–0 |
| MOUZ | Nuclear TigeRES, FOKUS | 4–0 |
| paiN | Gentle Mates, Ninjas in Pyjamas | 4–0 |
MOUZ handled both of their opponents without allowing the series to become genuinely dangerous. PaiN were similarly efficient, including a strong 2–0 victory over Ninjas in Pyjamas.
Both teams earned their places convincingly, but Malta will demand more. Liquid have already beaten opponents with realistic title ambitions; MOUZ and paiN have yet to face that level with their current lineups.
Spirit remain the highest-ranked team in the Finals, although their route was less controlled. They required a double-overtime decider to eliminate OG and then dropped Mirage 4–13 against 100 Thieves.
Their response demonstrated why they will still enter Malta as the leading candidate. Spirit closed the series with a 13–0 victory on Dust2, where donk recorded a 2.84 rating—the highest single-map rating of his career.
The contrast defines Spirit’s online stage. Their floor allowed two underdogs to threaten them, but their ceiling remains unmatched by the rest of the field.
The MongolZ recovered from losing the opening map of their campaign to HEROIC and then swept Wildcard. Their new lineup has secured an immediate LAN test, but two online victories are not enough to show how far the rebuild has progressed.
FaZe and Astralis also qualified without looking completely reliable. FaZe dropped a map to DENDELE, while both Astralis series reached deciders. 3DMAX complete the field after beating magic and FUT, establishing themselves as the lowest-ranked but potentially disruptive playoff team.
The latest ranking leaves only Spirit and MOUZ inside the world’s top ten. That makes this an unusually open BLAST playoff bracket, but not necessarily a weak one: several participants are rebuilding, recovering or playing above the level reflected by their current position.
Liquid produced the best online-stage performance, while Spirit retain the strongest individual ceiling. Those are not the same thing—and the Malta draft will force teams to decide which form of risk they would rather accept.
PaiN select first, followed by FaZe, 3DMAX and Liquid. Their available opponents are Spirit, MOUZ, The MongolZ and Astralis. Liquid may have the lowest draft priority, but after beating Vitality and G2 without dropping a map, they could arrive in Malta as the most dangerous nominal underdog.
The online stage removed several established favourites without producing a clear replacement. It has therefore made the draft more important: the quarterfinal pairings could decide whether Malta rewards proven quality, recent momentum or simply the team that reads this unusual field most accurately.
