Liquid replace siuhy with JT in another leadership reset

4 min readWinio Team

Team Liquid have officially signed Johnny “JT” Theodosiou as their new in-game leader and moved Kamil “siuhy” Szkaradek to the bench. JT joins NAF, EliGE, malbsMd and recently signed AWPer Jorko, with the new lineup set to debut against Vitality at BLAST Bounty Season 2 on July 24.

The move ends siuhy’s 15-month period on the active roster. Liquid brought him in to solve an existing T-side problem, but the team finished the latest season still posting one of the weakest offensive-side win rates in the professional scene. Their Major run ended with a 2–3 exit from Stage 1 in Cologne, including a 0–2 elimination against FlyQuest in which Liquid managed only five rounds across two T-side halves.

JT represents a different type of leadership bet. Rather than adding another young tactical prospect, Liquid have chosen an experienced caller with a long record of building North American and international lineups. He also reunites with EliGE after their time together in Complexity, reducing at least part of the adaptation required inside the new roster.

This is not an isolated captain change. Liquid have also replaced ultimate with Jorko, meaning both the AWP role and the team’s tactical leadership are changing at the same time. The organization is effectively resetting how rounds are called, how space is created and how its new AWPer is integrated into the system.

That makes the move more significant than a direct comparison between JT and siuhy. Liquid’s central problem was not simply that one IGL lacked ideas. Their offensive halves repeatedly looked slow and disconnected, while individual quality did not consistently become coordinated pressure across the map.

JT’s most immediate task is therefore to simplify the team’s structure. With EliGE, NAF and malbsMd, Liquid already have enough experienced rifling power. The new captain needs to create clearer responsibilities around them and give Jorko conditions in which he can develop without the entire system depending on immediate star-level output.

There is also a risk that Liquid are restarting the cycle without resolving its deeper cause. siuhy arrived with a strong reputation as a system-building IGL, yet the team never developed the stable identity expected from that appointment. Replacing him with another proven leader only works if the organization also gives the new roster enough time and clarity to establish a consistent approach.

Winio analysis

Liquid are moving from one leadership philosophy to another while simultaneously changing their AWPer. JT brings experience, familiarity with EliGE and a more established record of constructing functional teams, but his arrival does not automatically solve Liquid’s weak T sides.

The first useful signs will be structural rather than results-based: more decisive mid-round calls, clearer trading patterns and fewer offensive halves where the roster appears to wait for individual openings. The match against Vitality is too difficult to serve as a fair verdict on the rebuild, but it will show how coherent Liquid’s starting point already is.

Liquid have now assembled a roster with recognizable individual quality and an experienced captain. The remaining question is whether JT can turn another collection of strong names into a system that performs more reliably than the one siuhy leaves behind.
