The MongolZ Recover to Eliminate HEROIC from BLAST Bounty

3 min readWinio Team

The MongolZ defeated HEROIC 2–1 in the opening round of BLAST Bounty Season 2, recovering from a one-sided first map before closing the series in double overtime.

HEROIC had selected The MongolZ as their opponent despite the Mongolian team holding the higher tournament seed. The decision initially appeared justified as HEROIC dominated Nuke 13–5, converting an 8–4 defensive half into a comfortable victory.

The MongolZ responded on their own Cache pick. HEROIC led 7–5 at halftime, but the Mongolian side won eight of the next nine rounds to take the map 13–8 and force a Dust2 decider.

Neither team could establish a decisive advantage on the final map. The MongolZ led 7–5 at halftime, HEROIC produced the same score on its defensive side, and the series moved into overtime. The MongolZ eventually won 19–16 to eliminate HEROIC.

Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch led the winners with 66 kills, 86.0 ADR and a 1.35 rating. New signing Dugarsuren “DarkMeister” Ireedui contributed a 1.15 rating, while HEROIC’s Linus “nilo” Bergman finished as his team’s best performer at 1.27.

Winio Analysis

The comeback provides an encouraging first result for the rebuilt MongolZ roster. The team recently replaced mzinho and cobrazera with DarkMeister and 17-year-old tikuak, creating uncertainty around its chemistry and ability to recover during difficult series.

Nuke exposed how fragile the new lineup can still look when it loses control early. More importantly, the team did not allow that map to define the match. Its second-half response on Cache showed that the established core still provides enough structure to stabilize a series.

The performance of 910 was decisive, but DarkMeister’s contribution may be the more useful long-term signal. He produced positive numbers in his first major test without requiring the team to redesign its game around him.

HEROIC also showed promise after recently adding Brollan and MartinezSa. Their Nuke performance demonstrated a high enough ceiling to challenge a stronger seed, while nilo remained productive across the full series.

The problem was maintaining that level. HEROIC lost control after leading at halftime on Cache and could not convert a competitive Dust2. The match therefore leaves both rebuilt teams with similar conclusions: their new lineups can already produce strong stretches, but The MongolZ were better at recovering when the initial plan stopped working.
