The MongolZ to play BLAST Bounty Finals and EWC without maaRaa
The MongolZ will compete without head coach Erdenedalai “maaRaa” Bayanbat at the BLAST Bounty Season 2 Finals and the Esports World Cup. He will remain in contact with the roster and provide remote support, but will not be present with the team at either event.
The absence begins with the BLAST Bounty playoffs in Malta, where The MongolZ are one of eight remaining teams. It will then extend into their attempt to defend the Esports World Cup title they won in 2025.
A difficult moment for a rebuilt roster
The timing creates an additional challenge for a team already managing significant changes. The MongolZ recently added tikuak and DarkMeister, then recovered from an opening-map defeat against HEROIC before beating Wildcard 2–0 to qualify for Malta.
Those results provided a promising start, but the upcoming LAN matches will be a considerably more demanding test. Without maaRaa at the venue, the players must continue integrating two new members while losing their coach’s immediate input during preparation, timeouts and post-map adjustments.
Remote communication can preserve some continuity between matches. It cannot completely replace the speed and detail of working with the roster inside the practice room and on stage.
Previous absences ended in quarterfinal exits
This will not be the first time The MongolZ have played an important event without maaRaa. He also missed the ESL Pro League Season 23 playoffs and BLAST Open Rotterdam earlier in 2026.
The team reached the quarterfinals at both tournaments but advanced no further. Those results do not prove that the coach’s absence caused the eliminations, but they show that The MongolZ have yet to produce a deep playoff run without him present.
The challenge is now greater because the current lineup has had less time to develop its internal structure. New players must learn not only the team’s tactical system, but also how responsibility shifts when the head coach is unavailable on site.

The immediate concern is not that The MongolZ will suddenly lose their identity. Their established core still includes bLitz, Techno and 910, while maaRaa can remain involved remotely.
The more important issue is adaptation. A stable roster can compensate for an absent coach through familiar routines and shared experience; a rebuilt roster is more likely to need direct feedback when opponents expose new weaknesses.
BLAST Bounty will therefore become an early test of the team’s independence. If The MongolZ can make effective adjustments without maaRaa in Malta, their EWC title defence will appear more credible. If the same quarterfinal ceiling returns, his continued absence will become one of the central concerns surrounding the new lineup.
