Trove of Terror Adds Tidehunter Arcana and Brings Back Drow Ranger

Valve has released Trove of Terror, a new Dota 2 treasure built around horror-themed cosmetics. The October 7 release includes 15 new item sets, a brand-new Arcana for Tidehunter, the return of Drow Ranger's Arcana, and new appearances for both Tormentor and Roshan.

The biggest addition is Maw of the Megalodon, Tidehunter's new Arcana. It changes far more than the hero's basic model, adding custom animations, visual effects, taunts, voice lines and three shark-themed designs that can be unlocked through the Arcana's progression.

Trove of Terror is available in Dota 2 now, with two Arcanas at the center of the new cosmetic release.

Tidehunter gets Maw of the Megalodon

Maw of the Megalodon turns Tidehunter into a much more overt sea monster, with Valve leaning heavily into the shark theme. The Arcana includes a new hero model along with custom animations and effects. Valve also added unique taunts and voice lines, while progression through the Arcana can unlock all three of its shark-toothed designs. For Tidehunter, this is one of the largest cosmetic overhauls the hero has received.

Drow Ranger Arcana returns

Trove of Terror also brings back Drow Ranger's Arcana. The original Arcana first appeared as a high-level reward in the 2021 Aghanim's Labyrinth Battle Pass. Valve's new release allows Drow Ranger to retain her previous Arcana appearance or use a new darker, grave-themed form. That makes the return more than a straight re-release. Players who already know the original design are also getting a new visual option tied to Trove of Terror.

Trove of Terror includes 15 new sets

The two Arcanas are not the only rewards. Valve says the treasure contains 15 new item sets built around eldritch and otherworldly designs. The company describes the collection as combining fantasy and Immortal-style cosmetic elements across the sets.

Repeatedly opening Trove of Terror treasures can also unlock new appearances for Tormentor and Roshan. Valve did not detail the unlock thresholds in its announcement post, instead directing players to the Dota 2 client for the full treasure information.

Why Trove of Terror stands out

Trove of Terror combines two different types of cosmetic demand. Tidehunter gets an entirely new Arcana, while Drow Ranger brings back a cosmetic that was previously tied to an older Battle Pass. On top of that, Valve has placed 15 new sets and two objective cosmetics in the same release. For players who follow Dota 2 cosmetics rather than only competitive updates, this is one of Valve's largest releases of the post-TI period. Trove of Terror is already live in the Dota 2 client.
