Valve launches The Dark Carnival in Dota 2: what the new event adds

Valve has officially launched a new event in Dota 2 called The Dark Carnival. The first part of the event is Midnight Run, a story chapter with progression, match tickets, and rewards for players to unlock as they advance.
The event is built around Legion Commander and Hoodwink, who find themselves aboard Ringmaster’s dark train. Players will progress through the story, unlock new areas of the event, and collect rewards along the way.
The main mechanic of The Dark Carnival is tied to tickets. Players can earn them through regular Dota 2 matches and then spend them to move across the event map and unlock rewards. Different heroes provide different ticket types, which means players may have to move beyond their usual hero pool more often.
The event adds cosmetic items, 20 new sets, and five Automaton Personas. It also includes a ticket and reward exchange system, so progression depends not only on the number of matches played, but also on which heroes players choose.
The Dark Carnival can become a good reason to log into Dota 2 more often. The event is built into standard matchmaking. Players do not need to play a separate mode — they can simply play regular matches and earn tickets at the same time.
During the event, some players may pick heroes outside their usual pool in order to get the tickets they need. For those who continue playing their strongest heroes, this could be a convenient time to climb the ranked ladder more consistently.
The Dark Carnival looks like a major content event designed to keep interest in Dota 2 high between tournament periods. Valve is focusing on story, progression, and a simple motivation loop: play matches, earn tickets, unlock rewards.
The event is already available in Dota 2. For players, it is more than just new cosmetics - it is a full reason to return to matchmaking, complete Midnight Run, follow Dota 2 on Winio, and claim rewards before the next parts of The Dark Carnival are released.
