Valve has updated the matchmaking system in Dota 2 and adjusted MMR at the highest ranks.
The main change affected players at the Immortal rank. All players’ MMR now falls within a range of 1 to 9,500. At the same time, the minimum rating required to participate in Immortal Draft remains unchanged at 8,500 MMR.
What Changed in the Matchmaking System
Despite the MMR adjustment, Valve has preserved the relative distribution of players and their positions on the leaderboard. This means players should not lose their position relative to other participants in the ranked system.
The developers have also removed Random Draft and classic ranked matchmaking from the list of ranked modes.
In addition, a new option has been added to the ranked matchmaking tab: automatically select all roles when no Role Queue tokens are available. This feature is disabled by default.
Another change affects players who are new to ranked matchmaking. They will now receive 5 Role Queue tokens when gaining access to ranked matchmaking for the first time.
The Main Point
The update appears to be Valve’s attempt to make high-level matchmaking more controlled and reduce the excessive MMR gap between players.
The maximum rating is now capped at 9,500 MMR, while access to Immortal Draft still begins at 8,500 MMR.
